The Fundación Lilly was created for the purpose of contributing to improved health care in Spain, at the service of its citizens.
Our commitment to this method of collaboration arises from the conviction that Health is an essential service in the proposals and plans of a modern State, and whose achievement, guaranteed by the Public Administrations, should be promoted for everyone and for the benefit of all.
The health care structure is complex, in which a whole series of actors operate.
 The first is the general public, which make health care possible as a service through taxation and who have to contribute to its sustainability by making the best use of health resources.
The second actors are the Public Institutions, who are responsible for providing resources, arranging for their organisation and coordination and ensuring that they reach the public under the best conditions and in accordance with the highest efficiency criteria.
The third sector includes manufacturers and providers of the wide range of services, which have to guarantee their existence and accessibility under the highest health quality standards and offer maximum guarantees.
They include the industrial pharmaceutical sector, which is highly developed and widespread in Spain and which, like its surrounding general environment, is undergoing profound changes which should enable it to respond as expected by society.

The primary task of the pharmaceutical industry is to produce drugs which contribute to maintaining or improving the health of our citizens, in accordance with the current level of knowledge. This requires the sector to undertake research and generate knowledge which has to be transferred to the production of treatments for illnesses. In other words, the industry has to promote innovation and the improvement of its therapeutic potential at all times for the benefit of society.
But there are other ways however in which the pharmaceutical industry can participate in this social benefit. There are therefore numerous ways, apart from the generation of wealth and employment, in which this collaboration can be put into practice, such as the support for biomedical research, dissemination of knowledge, the creation of forums to express opinions and exchange ideas, health training and education, the prevention of diseases, etc.
Such was the rationale, along with the conviction of being able to contribute through these activities to the improved development and promotion of our health, which led the Lilly Group in Spain to sponsor the creation of the Fundación Lilly. |
