CHAIR OF MEDICAL EDUCATION
The need to achieve the highest academic level and continuing excellence in medical education, training and specialisation, whilst at the same time having to adapt the study plans to the European Higher Education Area, requires considerable efforts. This has to provide both an opportunity to improve university education and to preserve the core educational content which is characteristic to each of the professions, thereby enabling the achievement of appropriate training objectives and enhancing the performance of professional activity in our current society.
The adaptation of study plans in the European Higher Education Area is obliging medical education in Spain to change. In order to make the most of this opportunity and contribute to the ongoing improvement of medical teaching, as well as making it easier to introduce innovative techniques for evaluating educational results, the Fundación Lilly - UCM Chair of Medical Education was created, under the initiative of the Faculty of Medicine at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and the Fundación Lilly.
The Fundación Lilly - UCM Chair of Medicine has been established as a forum of experts in medical education with three fundamental aims: to create, transfer and apply knowledge in relation to medical education. To achieve this it is committed to including innovative methodologies, which will lead to the definition of the clinical skills and expertise that a medical student has to acquire.
Its major areas of activity include awarding Prizes for the best Graduate and Postgraduate and/or Specialist Training teaching project or work, organising forums for debate, editing books, etc.
In order to set out, monitor and achieve its objectives, the Fundación Lilly - UCM Chair of Medical Education has a Board of Directors and a Mixed Supervisory Committee, both of which include experts from the UCM and the Fundación Lilly.
